Project: The Linguist's Kitchen

Ian Phillips

Ian Phillips is a doctoral candidate in the Linguistics Program at CUNY Graduate Center. His research interests include second language acquisition, multilingualism, sentence processing, learnability theory, and new roles for technology in education. Ian is also a Digital Fellow at the Graduate Center, an adjunct lecturer at City College and Hunter College, and a research assistant in the Second Language Acquisition Lab at the GC.

Ian is currently developing a web-based application to guide beginning linguistics students in learning linguistic principles and practices. The app is called The Linguist’s Kitchen and provides the space, tools, and recipes for students to “cook” raw language data collected at home and in the community, analyze their own data, and fosters learning linguistics content by allowing students to investigate their own language practices.
