Mário Montenegro / Theatre

Visiting Researcher
April 2012 – May 2012

Mário Montenegro

Mário Montenegro is a Ph.D. student in Artistic Studies at the Faculty of Humanities in the University of Coimbra, Portugal, and received a Master’s of Art in European Dramatic Text from the University of Porto, Portugal. He has been researching the presence of science in theatre plays with a scholarship from the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology.

A professional theatre actor and director, he also founded the Marionet Theatre Company (www.marioneteatro.com) in 2000, a theatre group that creates science-related plays and is currently supported by DGArtes, the Portuguese public institution for the financing of the Arts.

During April and May of 2012, Mário worked at the Graduate Center of the CUNY as a visiting scholar researching theater & science under the supervision of Prof. Brian Schwartz, and started developing a documentary website about science plays, as a way of making the results of the research on the subject available to a wider audience. As of June 2012, the website, a science plays timeline, is under development and quite incomplete, but you’re welcome to take a look at the work in progress in https://newmedialab.cuny.edu/scienceplaystimeline.
