David Parsons / History
Graduate Student Researcher
2006 – 2009dparsons78@hotmail.com
I am in my fourth year as a doctoral student in U.S. History at the CUNY Graduate Center. My research interests are in twentieth century American culture, focusing specifically on the 1950s and 1960s counterculture and its antecedents, reception, and long-term impact. As I move toward a dissertation concerning the social and cultural experience of U.S. soldiers in Vietnam, I am increasingly interested in the ways that digital technology can be employed to aid academic research, and my New Media Lab project Finding the War: Database Technology and Historical Narrative will explore these issues. I am originally from Southern California, where I received my B.A. in Film Studies from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 2000, and have been living in New York since 2003.
