María F. Buitrago / Digital Humanities

Graduate Student Researcher
Started at the NML: May 2024

María F. Buitrago is an M.A. student in Digital Humanities and Women’s and Gender Studies at The Graduate Center (CUNY). She holds a double bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and Spanish Literature from Los Andes University in Bogotá, Colombia, and has professional experience as a public programmer/event producer at local NYC museums. Maria has been involved in feminist art collectives, such as Grupo Las Troyanas, in Bogotá. She currently works as a Community Educator at Violence Intervention Program, a non-profit supporting Latinx survivors of domestic violence.

Through her Digital Humanities courses, Maria has engaged more critically and creatively with digital tools to present some of her research interests, including Latin American feminist theories and critiques of debt, capital, life, and matter in unconventional formats. She designed the Debt Disobedience project to further entangle these theories with memes and Latin American popular culture icons.
