Stephen McFarland

Steve is a PhD candidate in Geography in the Earth and Environmental Science program. His dissertation is on the history of union halls as spaces of organizing and class formation in the US labor movement, a project he has undertaken under the advisement of Ruthie Gilmore and the late Neil Smith. His research interests include urbanism, social movements, labor history, and political economy. At the NML, Steve is using ArcGIS to create a digital map of shop stewards of the United Auto Workers Local 174, on the West Side of Detroit, c. 1940.
