Project: Mapping New York City's Sailortown
Johnathan Thayer is a PhD student in History at The Graduate Center, CUNY and the Archivist at the Seamen’s Church Institute of New York and New Jersey. His research focuses on the archival traces left behind by merchant seamen in court records, reform literature, legislative debates, and the records of maritime unions and shipping companies. He is interested in exploring how digital technologies can contribute to historical scholarship as well as the field of public history. He teaches at CUNY’s Joseph S. Murphy Institute for Worker Education and Labor Studies and the Queens College Graduate School of Library and Information Studies.
